About Us

Oak Park Unified School District is a public TK–12 school district located in Oak Park, an unincorporated community in southern Ventura County near the Los Angeles County line. The district was formed in 1977, when residents voted to establish a local school system focused on meeting the needs of the community.
The district serves approximately 4,400 students in a comprehensive transitional kindergarten through grade 12 program. Schools include 5 comprehensive schools, consisting of 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school; 2 alternative schools, Oak Park Independent School and Oak View High School; and Oak Park Neighborhood School. Oak Park Neighborhood School includes a Reggio Emilia–inspired preschool program that emphasizes child-centered learning and multiple ways for young learners to express themselves through exploration and play.
Oak Park Unified serves students who live within district boundaries as well as students who attend through approved transfer options. Approximately 50 percent of students attend Oak Park schools through transfer options, including the District of Choice program and traditional interdistrict transfer permits.
Student performance on state assessments is consistently strong. Oak Park Unified reports the highest CAASPP scores in Ventura County and ranks among the top 10 unified school districts in California based on CAASPP results. On the California School Dashboard, all district and school sites received a Blue performance level for all Academic Performance Indicators, including English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and college and career readiness.
In the 2026 rankings published by Niche, Oak Park Unified received the following distinctions:
- #1 of 10 school districts in Ventura County
- #1 of 16 school districts for best teachers and best districts to teach in Ventura County
- #7 of 100 school districts in the Los Angeles area
- #18 of 466 school districts in California
- #86 of 10,394 school districts nationwide
All district schools have been recognized as California Gold Ribbon Schools, and several have received National Blue Ribbon School recognition. The district has also been recognized as a National Green Ribbon School District for its environmentally responsible practices and policies.
