Board Goals
2025-2026
OPUSD will be a leader in public education. The Board will operate with integrity and discipline to prioritize students' needs. We are committed to high academic standards, student-centered decisions, and a culture of innovation and continual improvement to ensure the best educational experience for all.
- Vision and Commitment: The Board will review OPUSD’s Mission and Vision annually.
- Agenda Planning: The Board will continue with the existing agenda planning process of bringing in rotating Board members into monthly agenda-planning meetings with the Board President . This will ensure that individual board members have ample opportunity to discuss agenda questions with the Superintendent prior to the board meeting. Board members will proactively schedule individual meetings with the Superintendent to address their concerns and inquiries.
- Board Meeting Protocols: Review and improve safety practices for board meetings and board members.
- The Board will commit to adhering to the governance team norms and board protocols in the Governance Handbook.
- Strategic Planning Preparation: The Board will begin working with the Superintendent to prepare for the development of a comprehensive strategic plan beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
- Accountability:
- The Board will utilize clear and measurable indicators to assess district performance. As part of this effort, the Board will work with the Superintendent to ensure that school sites and key educational partners continue to align their site plans and professional goals with LCAP and District goals.
- The Board will establish more definitive priorities for the District’s negotiating team in advance. These priorities will be aligned to support the District’s vision and goals.
- Board member will regularly attend PTO council meetings.
- Policy Setting and Tracking:
- The Board will ensure that the District tracks the progress and impact of policies with significant amendments and implementation requirements.
- Define Digital Citizenship principles for policy development.
- Community Leadership and Accessibility:
- The Board will provide community leadership and remain accessible to our learning community by arranging quarterly site visits and sending representatives to attend student LCAP advisory meetings, PTO council meetings, PTA meetings, and other relevant school, auxiliary, and community gatherings.
- The Board will work with the Superintendent to develop a "State of the District" video at the end of the year.
- The Board will identify community partnership opportunities to support District goals.
- Professional Development: The Board will commit to ongoing professional development by participating in CSBA’s Annual Education Conference and other educational opportunities to stay informed about current and relevant educational topics.
